My top books for Greek Gods and Goddesses.

So this is something I was asked to do, this will be very small, as I actually really struggle to enjoy many about them.

This one shocked me that I enjoyed it so much.  Explaining how Heracles got his name, to how Hera and her aim to have him removed.  The thing that got me hooked was her explaining Heracles child hood, I hadn’t seen this much before, and the only thing that really ever is told is how Hera tried to kill him with a snake.  Oh, did you not know it wasn’t Hades like shown in the Disney adaptation.  So imagine how much more they did wrong for Heracles’ 12 labours, check it out by clicking here!

Well, it wouldn’t be right to have this list without the world renowned poet Homer on it.  Yes, this is not a story as such, but was written as poems.  Sadly, translating to English loses it’s poetry.  But it is an much needed addition to understand how Zeus punished the Trojan’s due to them asking favours of the gods and goddesses, because they were losing.  This turned the ties, after Hera his wife, sent Hypnos (god of sleep) to put Zeus to sleep so he would not see!  Check it out by clicking here!

Now, this is one of my favourites, I actually listen to the Epic musical everyday.  It takes us through Odyssey’s journey of not being home for the last 10 years as he was at war.  But how Zeus, Athena and more asked so much off him, it changed who he was.  How to find he’s way home again was the only way to remember the roots that he grew from.  This book of poems, actually makes me cry every time, no matter if I am reading it or I am listening to Epic.  Check it out by clicking here!

And this is where it all started, me realising this whole time it was the Greek gods and goddesses that had been calling me.  My eldest got this book when she was about 4 and since then has never put it down.  It shares the myths that are most famously known from Pandoras box (if we could put it back we would), to Jason and the golden fleece and much more.  Brilliantly illustrated as well, as them told amazingly for children.  Check it out by clicking here!

So which one will you start with?
